In June Susan and i moved from our home on the Navajo Reservation
to Fernley Nevada. Since moving i have started wanted to write more again so i decided to try and have another go with
the blog, we’ll see how long it lasts. Anytime i go through a big change i start to think about aspects of my life that have changed
and realize parts of my life that i was taking for granted…more on that later.
in the mean time.
here’s an interesting short article on the island in the lake next to where i work describing all of the Pelicans and rattle snakes that live there.

marathon and such

October 25, 2011

Susan and I ran Albuquerque’s marathon yesterday. All in all it went fantastic. Susan ended up running a 4:18 and i finished in 3:36. It was really rewarding to train and work towards the race and then complete it. I was hoping to run a 330, but i’ll take it. The weather was great the course was scenic. Maybe the only disappointing thing was the lack of costumes. The only real costume i saw was a guy wearing spock ears and penciled on vulcan eyebrows. No one running in chicken suits, or prom dresses. Today both of us are  sore.  Really  Sore.

Related to running….here’s a really funny post on running ultra marathons. (warning, maybe not work safe, some swearing). maybe next year i’ll find  an ultra marathon to run.

In the mean time though next up for me, in just under 2 weeks i’ll be riding in a 25 hour mt bike race, solo.  I was going to do the race with a team of 3 other people, but they all bailed, and i really don’t want to miss it.  24 hour races are held on 10-20 mile loops  and riders just complete as many laps as they can in 24 hours.

Goings On

June 16, 2011

Now that summer has arrived we’ve been staying pretty busy exploring and staying active.

Last week we went hiking in Utah at a place called Grand Gulch it was pretty incredible. Hiking though some canyons with giant cliffs peppered with old pueblo ruins. water was pretty scarce but we survived, despite having to drink a few mosquito larva. some photos from the trip are here

Before the hiking trip i struggled my way though an off road triathlon. it went ok, not a bad start to getting back into the sport. i  realized though that i need a lot more practice with open water swimming in groups. photos of the race that Susan took can be seen here

Up next is a 24 hour mt. bike race. Susan and i are both racing in it. a link to the race can be found here. pictures and thoughts after the fact will come soon.

Big Fire

Theres a big fire burning in southern Arizona, as no doubt everyone has heard. Some days its pretty hazy here, but a lot of the time especially more recently it has remained pretty clear.

Gov’t Mule

March 7, 2011

A few weeks ago my friend nick posted the following drink recipe.
a home made version of Woodberry Kitchen’s (a baltimore restaurant) “Gov’t Mule” drink.   Susan and i tried it this weekend, quite very good. So if you’re looking for a refreshing summer drink, we highly recommend it.

* 3 shots ginger beer
* 1-2 shots vodka
* a scant 1 shot of lime-ginger syrup
(based loosely on this recipe)
